History

Madison State Hospital has served the citizens of Indiana for over a century. In 2005, The Joint Commission accredited hospital moved into its state-of-the-art treatment facility created from an extraordinary blend of historic restoration, renovation and new construction. It was certified as one of the first Leadership in Environmental Energy Design (LEED) psychiatric facilities in the nation. The innovative hospital structure parallels the overall mission to establish exemplary standards of psychiatric care. Downsized over the years, MSH now serves 120 of Indiana’s most severely mentally ill adults. A map of the hospital campus is available by clicking here.
