Press release: J. Foley Robing

For Immediate Release | November 21, 2022

Robing Ceremony of the Honorable Peter R. Foley

The robing ceremony for Judge Peter R. Foley will take place on Monday, November 28 at 2:00 p.m. EST in the Supreme Court Courtroom, on the 3rd floor of the State House. The public is invited to watch a webcast of the ceremony via the following link: https://www.in.gov/courts/video/live/supreme.html.

The ceremony will include remarks from Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta H. Rush, Court of Appeals of Indiana Chief Judge Cale J. Bradford, Joe Heerens, General Counsel for Governor Eric J. Holcomb, and Senator Rod Bray. Chief Justice Rush will administer the oath, and Judge Foley’s parents, Ralph and Ann Foley, will assist with the ceremonial robing. Judge Foley’s wife, Jill, and daughters, Maggie and Anna, will stand beside him as the Chief Justice administers the oath.

In September, Governor Holcomb named Judge Foley to succeed Judge Edward W. Najam, Jr., who retired from the Court in August. Judge Foley was sworn in at a private ceremony on October 11, 2022 and officially began his duties as judge on that date.

Media interested in attending must contact Court of Appeals of Indiana Director of Communications, Anne Fuchs, at anne.fuchs@courts.in.gov by 4:00 p.m. EST on Tuesday, November 22 to learn pool feed details and to arrange seating.

The Court of Appeals of Indiana is the second-highest court in the state, hearing appeals from the state’s trial courts. The 15 members of the Court issue approximately 2,000 written opinions each year. A decision is final unless granted further review by the Indiana Supreme Court. Oral arguments are open to the public, and opinions are posted online. For more information on the Court of Appeals of Indiana, visit https://www.in.gov/judiciary/appeals/.
