The Switzerland County Parks & Recreation board will meet on the second Thursday of the month, 4:30 pm at the Switzerland County Public Library, 205 Ferry St in Vevay. The meeting is open to the public.

About Parks & Recreation

The Switzerland County Parks & Recreation Board is charged with providing outdoor recreation opportunities for the residents of Switzerland County.

The Switzerland County Park Board was organized in July of 1966.  The board experienced active & inactive years, reorganizing in 1978.  It was not until 1985 that the Switzerland County Parks & Recreation was created.

The board consists of:

  • 2 appointed by the judge of the circuit court
  • 1 appointed by the county executive
  • 2 by county fiscal body
  • 1 secretary and
  • 2 ex-officio members representing the Purdue Extension Service and

​           Soil & Water Conservation District.

The board prepares and submits an annual budget as other departments of County government prescribed by the State Board of Accounts. The board may accept gifts , donations, and subsidies for park and recreation purposes.

Our Parks

Markland Dam Park

Markland Dam Park was acquired by the county through a lease with the US Corp of Engineers in 1990.  Through many volunteer efforts the land was developed to house several shelter houses with picnic tables and grills, full bathroom facilities, basketball court and several baseball diamonds.

Patriot Launch Ramp

Patriot Launch Ramp was acquired by Switzerland county through the Federal Lands to Parks Program in 2007.  This park consists of a launch ramp and dock, 2 shelter houses with picnic tables, and an ADA compliant walking trail.

Bryant's Creek Boat Ramp

Bryant's Creek Boat Ramp was acquired by the county in 2018 through the Federal Lands to Parks Program.  This park offers an access ramp for kayaks, canoes and small john boats.
