Patrol Division

Patrol Division

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division carries out law enforcement services countywide. Its mission is to preserve the peace by protecting all persons and property; providing process services and execution of court documents; handling detained persons; and providing secure transportation for persons in custody.

Deputies are involved at various stages of the criminal justice system. They serve various types of arrest warrants and other documents and execute court paperwork. Deputies conduct criminal and civil investigations on cases that occur within the jurisdiction of Boone County.

The Enforcement Division is the biggest division of the Sheriff’s Office and consists of a Captain, Two Lieutenants, 4 Sergeants, and 21 Deputies.  All Enforcement Deputies are graduates of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.  Deputies coverage area consists of 415 square miles of road to patrol. Currently, the Enforcement Deputies work 12-hour shifts on a rotating schedule.  Prior to being released for solo patrol, deputies are put through Field Training Operations by qualified instructors before being released to begin working the road.  Deputies for the Grant County Sheriff’s office encounter a variety of calls from stray animals to homicides.  In addition, deputies answer calls for service and cover motor vehicle accidents, patrolling the schools, providing funeral escorts, and assisting in various other community services. Although these calls range in severity, all are treated with the same dedication and professionalism the citizens of Grant County deserve.

The functions and duties of Deputy Sheriffs vary in scope and nature, but we remain proud that all Sheriff Division staff work in conjunction with other federal, state, and county law enforcement agencies to provide for the health, safety, and welfare of all citizens of Grant County.
