A short biography

Sheriff Reynolds is believed to have been born August 1, 1813 in Center, Guliford County, North Carolina. Sheriff Reynolds was born to Ebenezer and Rachel (Green) Reynolds according to records. Although it is not known when Sheriff Reynolds moved to Grant County or much about his time in office or where he died and was buried at there are some interesting notes right after he left office. Sheriff Reynolds became a popular politician and was elected to the 36th General Assembly of the House of Representatives in Indiana and served in 1851. It should be noted in 1851 is when Indiana redrafted it’s constitution which still stands to this day. It is also known that Mr. Reynolds served as the treasurer for the first fair held on October 21st, 1853 according to the annual report of the Indiana Board of Argiculture. While serving in the statehouse Mr. Reynolds presented a petition to change the name of Van Buren Township to Jackson and it was referred to the judiciary committee. Obviously, it never went anywhere after that. Sheriff Reynolds served on the Canals and Internal Improvements Committee and also on the Enrolled Bills committee during the session.
