Mr. Raymond A. Marley, age 83, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at his residence, after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Marley was born Thursday, December 21, 1922, in Grant, Indiana to the late Raymond Marley and the late Georgia Pierce Marley. He was a  member of House of Prayer  Interdenominational Church, where he adopted, informally, the Holoman family; JoAnn, Phil, Jason, Jennifer,  Jessica, Joey, and JoAnna, and also Brandon Owens. The have been a blessing as our Blairsville family.

A WWII Army Veteran he served as a medic in World War II in the Pacific  Theatre, 19941-1945. Mr. Marley was a member and Past Commander of  The American Legion and a member of V.F.W. Mr. Marley worked in law enforcement for 40 years, serving in Marion and Van Buren, Indiana; and served as Sheriff for Grant County, Indiana for four years. He was a licensed commercial pilot with over 7000 flight hours. He also did crop dusting, and was a Certified Flight Instructor. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, golfing, wood-turning, and also used a potter’s wheel to form clay vessels. He built his own kiln, and composed his own proper chemical formulas to achieve his personal colors for firing the pottery. A  very talented man, he was a skilled automobile mechanic, carpenter, electrician and plumber.

Mr. Marley was preceded in death by a son, Joseph A. Marley.  Survivors include: wife, Barbara Marley of Blairsville, Georgia; son, James E. Marley, of Wilmington, North Carolina; son, John Stephen Marley of Sugar Hill, Georgia; son, Raymond T. Marley, of Missouri; step-son, Timothy L. Fischer of St. Matthew, Couth Carolina; step-son, Kenneth H. Fischer of Finland, Minnesota; step-daughter, Martha S. Mullen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Many grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.

Memorials services will be held Friday, January 20, 2006 at 1 p.m. from the House of Prayer Interdenominational Church with Rev. Jerry Helton  officiating. Burial services will be held Sunday, January 22, 2006, in Marion, Indiana.
