R. Harold Ash, 87, Colonial Oaks Health Care Center, died at 12:50 p.m. Monday at home.

He was born in Peru, Ind., and had lived in Marion since 1941. He was a detective with the Indiana State Police from 1941 to 1965 and served as Grant County sheriff from 1966 to 1974. He also served multiple terms on the Marion City Council and Grant County Council. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and First United Methodist Church of Marion. He was an avid golfer.

Surviving are a daughter, Lucinda (Mike) Beall, LaFontaine, and a son, David (Jody), Indianapolis; two sisters, Marjorie Rush and Flora AWickerham; and three grandsons, Jeremy, Chris, and Joe.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, who died Sept. 3, 1999.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday in Raven Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, with the Rev. Allen Kahler officiating. Burial is in gardens of Memory cemetery, Huntington.

Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Thursday at the funeral home.
