J.B. M’GUFFIN IS DEAD-WAS ILL 8 WEEKS

______

James B. McGuffin, aged 62, prominent citizen of Marion, passed away this morning at 5:30 o’clock at his residence, 122 North Washington street, of bronchial pneumonia. He had been ill eight days at first having been seized by Spanish influenza, which developed into pneumonia last Wednesday. The news of his death came as a great shock to his many friends, for he was a man whom to know was to admire and esteem. The funeral services will be conducted from the residence tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, with Rev. Huffler, First Presbyterian pastor, to be in charge. The body will lie in state from 10 until 12 o’clock tomorrow morning. Burial will take place in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.

Mr. McGuffin is survived by a widow, a stepson, James Hawkins, several sisters, among whom are Mrs. J. V. Morrice, Goshen; Mrs. Ella DeFrees, West Virginia; another in Kansas, and a brother, Charles McGuffin, of Indianapolis.

He came to Marion twenty-five years ago, and beside serving as sheriff one term, has been identified with local manufacturing industries ever since. First, he was with the Keller Chair company, and for some time has been the president of the Marion Planing company. He was a Mason, and also was affiliated with the Elks lodge, the T.P.A. and the Presbyterian church.

In 1907 he married Mrs. Ada Hawkins of this city. Always connected intimately with the social and business life of the city, Mr. McGuffin will be more than ordinarily missed by everyone who knew him.
