The board has approved accepting tires between April-July and October-November. This is much more convenient than a single day program. Here is an outline of how the program works:

The CCSWMD will accept tires from Cass County Residents and farmers only, no businesses, by appointment.

  • Yard Waste

    Yard Waste

About 20 years ago, the Cass County Recycling District provided funding for the City of Logansport to purchase a Tub Grinder, which is used to create mulch. The mulch is available to the public. The CCSWMD annually funds operation and maintenance costs of the program.

The Logansport Department of Public Works will pick up yard debris, including leaves, grass, and small trimmings. It must be placed in a 2-ply, biodegradable, 30-gallon bag that may be purchased at several local stores. Yard waste is picked up by Logansport Street Dept. Yard waste will not be picked up if it is placed in a plastic bag. Yard waste collection is from April 1st -November 30th and is on a call-in basis at all other times.

Non-city residents may deliver their yard waste to the compost site by making an appointment with the Department of Public Works.

  • FAQ

    FAQ

Q - I need a replacement recycling bin for my home. What can I do ?

A - Logansport residents who need to replace a recycling container should contact the Department of Public Works at (574) 753-4610. All other area residents who have a recycling bin that needs to be replaced should contact their trash vendor.

Q - I am going to be doing a roofing project that requires a roll off container for material. Who can I call?

    A - Republic Services/Wabash Valley: 800-989-2539 or Waste Management: 888-253-5660.

Q - I need to get some information, including fees, concerning the Oak Ridge Landfill. How can I reach them?

    A - (574) 398-6005 or (574) 722-5771.

    Q - Is glass recyclable?

A - The simple answer in this area is not really. Essentially any glass that has had a food product in it can be recycled and can be placed in a recycling container. Other glass, including windows and shower doors, has additives in it and can't be recycled at our facility.

Q - I have an old television I need to dispose of. Can you help me?

A - Yes. The Cass County Solid Waste Management District offers five day a week electronic collection for area residents. You must first contact the district office at (574) 732-9253 to make an appointment. We are located at 518 High St. (Downtown). We will not pick up electronics. They must be delivered after making an appointment.

Q - How can I properly dispose of tires?

A - In the past, the district has hosted a tire amnesty day. In 2013, the Solid Waste District Board voted to take tires from area residents five days a week; by appointment. That ran from mid April until the beginning of August. We are planning on bringing back the program next year as well. If you need to dispose of tires before then, you can contact a local dealer or the vendor we use; Leffler Tire in Peru.

Q - I have some old paint. How can I get rid of it?

A - A lot of the paint that is used by area residents is Latex, which is water based. If you are unable to give it to someone else to use, you can dry it out and leave the lid off, and dispose of it with your regular trash. Kitty litter will help dry it out. Oil based paint needs to be taken to our HHW Day, which is in October.

Q - Where are the roll off recycling containers in Cass County?

A - 15 Biddle St, Pioneer Elementary in Royal Center, behind the Christian Church in Walton, the wastewater plant in Galveston, and at 350s/50E behind the Industrial Park, and in Twelve Mile at the moss fertilizer.

Q - What can I put in a Logansport recycling container or in a roll off bin?

A - Paper, cardboard, plastics (number 1-7), glass bottles and jars, aluminum and tin cans. Window glass, kitchen ware are not acceptable. Please break down all boxes.

Q - What can I do with motor oil?

A - It can be taken to our HHW Day in October.
