The Carthage Fire Department, founded in 1953, is a close-knit,community- focused organization dedicated to providing rapid, professional response to all fire and medical emergencies. We take pride in delivering high-quality service while emphasizing ongoing education, advanced training, and proactive fire prevention to better serve and protect our community, which has a population of approximately 920 people and is growing with an outstanding 361 acres of land. Carthage, Indiana, is a historic town in Rush County, platted in 1834 along the Big Blue River, and named after Carthage, North Carolina. Known for its Quaker heritage, early 20th-century industry, and the historic Beech settlement of free blacks, it served as a thriving agricultural and milling center.
