Hoosier Rising Star Award

In partnership with hundreds of Hoosiers and the Office of Community & Rural Affairs, Lt. Governor Skillman convened RISE 2020, the state’s first-ever strategic plan for rural communities. In an effort to acknowledge the contribution youth make in our rural communities, Lt. Governor Skillman created the Hoosier Rising Star Award, an annual honor which will be given to as many as five youth who have made a significant difference in their rural communities. Any student enrolled in grades K-12 during the 2006-07 school year may be nominated by a member of their community. Priority will be given to students who have created and/or taken the lead on innovative projects which address targeted issues in their communities, including economic development, environmental issues, tourism, education, and social issues such as abuse, crime, hunger, and poverty.

2008 Celebration of Women Artists

During Women's History Month, Lt. Governor Becky Skillman wishes to acknowledge the contribution Hoosier women artists have made to our state. Women artists from Indiana are invited to submit their original artwork for consideration.

Senior Spotlight Award

All across the state of Indiana, our Hoosier Seniors work hard to improve their communities, help others, and serve as mentors and caregivers. To honor senior Hoosier volunteers, Lt. Governor Becky Skillman announces the Senior Spotlight Award. This distinction shall be awarded to up to 10 senior volunteers. The winners' commitments may be community-wide or individually-oriented. Each winner will demonstrate unique efforts to promote the health and well-being of our Hoosier communities.

AgriVision Award

The award will be open to any current Indiana resident who has demonstrated exemplary leadership to maximize Indiana's agricultural potential and to secure our future as a world leader in agricultural production. Individuals in all sectors of agriculture - from bioenergy to livestock to trade - will be encouraged to apply, however the honor will be bestowed on the person who has reshaped Indiana's agriculture through innovative or technological advances or through new business methods.
