Susan Isaacs began work as the Wayne Township Trustee in July 2010, when trustee Marge Sweet retired. Susan has a bachelor's degree in business from Indiana University East, and her work experience includes working as staff accountant with local CPA firm, and over twenty years in the people business (restaurant management).
Susan is passionate about the work of the Trustee's office and is actively involved in many areas within our community that concern those living in poverty, including:
- Speaking to community groups about poverty and resources in our area
- Obtaining Bridges Out of Poverty trainer certification to assist in bringing about change in the way we view and
address poverty at the local level - Participation in and promotion of Poverty Simulations held locally to foster a more compassionate and
meaningful understanding of what it means to live in poverty - Partnering with local service providers such as Hope House, Open Arms, the Salvation Army, the Boys and Girls Club, and area faith-based organizations
- Coordinating the efforts of local businesses and individuals in providing special Christmas blessings to struggling
families with children, as well as hosting annual Christmas party for our representative payee clients (funded
with staff and other private donations)
Susan is especially proud of the Representative Payee program in place in this office. Through the diligence, advocacy, and caring of two staff members, over 50 households have their bills paid and basic needs secured using their Social Security benefits, at no added cost of the individual. This service allows these households to live independently and increase their personal safety, sense of security, and sense of well-being. The township staff members frequently advocate for these families, preventing their unfair treatment and acting as their voice when needed.
