Incorporated in 1892, Elnora was platted in 1885 with the arrival of the railroad and named for Elnora Griffith, wife of an early merchant. As of the 2020 census, our population stands at 631, with a diverse age range and a median age of 39.4 years. The town spans 0.95 square miles, offering a peaceful, rural lifestyle with easy access to nearby cities like Bloomington (36 miles) and Indianapolis (81 miles).
Elnora is known for its agricultural roots, celebrated through the annual Elnora Antique Tractor Show, and its commitment to community improvement. In 2025, Elnora partnered with Indiana University’s Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design to develop 30 innovative architectural designs, including a revitalized town hall and community greenhouse, to enhance our infrastructure and vibrancy.
