Employment Opportunities

The Bloomfield Police Department is always accepting applications from individuals interested in serving the Bloomfield community. Applications may be submitted at any time and will be kept on file for approximately one year from the date of submission.

Minimum Applicant Standards

Applicants for sworn law enforcement positions must be able to meet all applicable Indiana law enforcement hiring, training, and certification standards, including but not limited to:

  • Be a United States citizen.

  • Be at least 21 years of age by the completion of basic training.

  • Possess a high school diploma, equivalency diploma, or degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Be of good reputation and character, as determined through a background investigation.

  • Have no felony conviction or criminal history that would indicate the applicant is potentially dangerous, violent, or has a propensity to violate the law.

  • Successfully complete fingerprinting and applicable criminal history checks.

  • Demonstrate the reading and writing ability required for law enforcement training.

  • Possess the strength, agility, vision, hearing, physical fitness, emotional fitness, and mental fitness necessary to safely complete law enforcement training and perform the duties of a police officer.

  • Pass any required medical examination, psychological evaluation, drug screening, interview process, physical fitness testing, and other selection requirements established by the Bloomfield Police Department, the Town of Bloomfield, Indiana law, or the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board.

  • Successfully complete the required Indiana Law Enforcement Academy training, or qualify as an already-certified or waiver-eligible officer, as applicable.

Applicants must also meet the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy physical fitness standards in effect at the time of testing, hiring, or academy enrollment. Beginning August 1, 2026, the ILEA Physical Agility Test will be the statewide fitness standard for Indiana law enforcement, with an entrance standard time of 4:08 and an exit standard time of 3:58.
