GSI program wraps up with awards ceremony

Chief Justice Group Photo.jpgIn August, the State proudly bid farewell to the 2026 Governor’s Summer Internship cohort. Throughout their time with the State, interns gained meaningful experience and hands-on insight through the projects and initiatives they supported within their agencies. In addition, interns participated in a variety of enriching opportunities, including visits with Governor Braun, Inspector General Prentice, and Chief Justice Rush (pictured right). They also attended events such as an Agency Leadership Panel, a Professional Development Workshop, and a Poster Presentation showcase.

The GSI program wrapped up with an Awards Ceremony recognizing the impact of their work over the summer. Intern supervisors were invited to nominate their interns for the annual Intern Awards, celebrating individuals who demonstrated outstanding excellence in the following categories: 

Community Impact Award: This intern's work had a significant and direct impact on the State of Indiana population. Overall, the intern's project(s) improved the lives of Hoosiers. 

  • Maggie Maienbrook, Department of Corrections 
  • Mitchell Adams, Department of Revenue 
  • Nicholas Wahlman, Department of Transportation 

Agency Impact Award: This intern's work had a significant impact on agency operations and goals. Overall, the intern's project(s) helped the agency be more efficient and effective in their operations. 

  • Jackson Biesen, Commission for Higher Education 
  • Jillian Blackburn, Bureau of Motor Vehicles 
  • Madeline Sebahar, Department of Revenue 
  • Meghan Shepp, Management Performance Hub 

Innovation Award: This intern used creativity to solve a problem or obstacle identified within their internship experience. This intern demonstrated initiative, innovation, and problem-solving skills.

  • Abdullah, Department of Transportation 
  • Shola Daramola, State Personnel Department 

Collaboration Award: This intern demonstrated a strong ability to work effectively across agencies and teams. This intern showed initiative in building partnerships and approaching their work with a collaborative mindset.

  • Nicholas Wahlman, Department of Transportation 

Ambition Award: This intern heavily participated in the Governor's Summer Internship program events, developed professionally, and overall had a growth-oriented mindset.
