Make your Defined Benefit a part of your retirement strategy: For PERF-and-TRF Hybrid plan members
For PERF-and-TRF Hybrid plan members your defined benefit (DB) is a valuable asset. Learn how a pension benefit can strengthen your retirement strategy and make your retirement dreams a reality.
A defined benefit (DB), also referred to as a pension, is a unique benefit you may earn from an employer. If you earn a vested status, think of it as a guaranteed benefit at the end of the road toward retirement.
Public service employees whose employers offer the Hybrid plan may have an advantage when it comes to retirement planning and saving. Members of the PERF and TRF Hybrid plans are required to work 10 years of qualified service before earning vested status, which provides for a future guaranteed lifetime benefit. And while there might be many uncertainties and occasional hiccups as you near retirement, with your INPRS DB, you can bank on your DB as you approach retirement eligibility. Plus, members may qualify to receive benefits without separating from your employer. Once you meet eligibility requirements, you can count on this payment arriving to you monthly for life.1
To view the value of your pension, refer to your PERF or TRF annual member statement, which normally arrives within a few months after your birth month. This value will be represented as a future lump sum. Once five or more years of service are reached, INPRS can calculate the amount of money that you may receive as a monthly benefit, once service and age requirements are met.
Every day that journey toward retirement gets shorter. INPRS is here to help make sure your reward is waiting for you at the end.

1. Some exceptions include changing your chosen survivor; you may have your pension amount adjusted. Additionally, your pension amount may be reduced or eliminated if you've selected Social Security integration. If this is your situation, you would have agreed to these terms before accepting the benefit. Please contact us if you have questions about your specific INPRS pension benefit.
