The asset lifecycle strategies for bridges and pavement are one component of INDOT’s overall asset management system, which includes all processes, policies, procedures, documents, and the supporting framework that enables successful asset management. Documents within the asset management system include INDOT’s Transportation Asset Management Plan (TAMP) and Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP).
Transportation Asset Management Plan (TAMP)
The TAMP describes the existing conditions of INDOT’s transportation network and identifies planned enhancements within the 10-year horizon for managing the state highway system. The TAMP brings together all related business processes, as well as internal and external stakeholders, to achieve a common understanding and commitment to improve the state’s bridge and pavement performance on designated national highway system routes.
Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP)
The SAMP summarizes INDOT’s organizational objectives into asset management initiatives and objectives. It utilizes the INDOT Strategic Plan and other internal policies to develop and maintain agency-wide asset management plans. In turn, INDOT’s asset lifecycle strategies describe the decision-making processes and considerations to prepare bridge and pavement treatment strategies, provide a tactical approach to achieve department objectives and implement asset improvement plans.
