What is Monitoring?

Indiana Disability Rights has federal authority to monitor facilities and services provided to individuals with disabilities. Monitoring efforts can be better defined as routine access to ensure health and safety and to provide education and training to individuals residing in the facilities described below.

Where Does Indiana Disability Rights monitor?

  • State operated facilities
  • Nursing facilities, nursing homes
  • Rehabilitation centers
  • Assisted living facilities
  • Any facility which serves people with disabilities

How Does Indiana Disability Rights Monitor?

  • Face-to-face interviews with individuals with disabilities
  • Face-to-face interviews with staff members
  • Evaluation of the setting’s physical conditions
  • Records review
  • Inspection of all areas used by or accessible to people with disabilities
