Environmental Laws and Rules

The Indiana General Assembly created IDEM under Title 13 of the Indiana Code (IC). The agency’s mission is to implement federal and state regulations to protect human health and the environment while allowing the environmentally sound operations of industrial, agricultural, commercial and government activities vital to a prosperous economy. Environmental laws and rules set standards of conduct that everyone is expected to follow.

Laws

The Indiana Code is the code of laws for the state of Indiana. It is organized by title, article, chapter, and section. Indiana’s environmental laws are located in Title 13. Environment of the Indiana Code.

Rules

IDEM administers and implements environmental rules adopted by the Environmental Rules Board and the Underground Storage Tank Financial Assurance Board. The rules can be found in Titles 326, 327, 328, and 329 of the Indiana Administrative Code (IAC). Following are links to Indiana’s environmental rules.
