Overview and Logistics
As required by Indiana law, a public hearing will be held to allow for members of the public to comment about Charter School proposals. Public hearings are generally held in-person at a location within the school corporation in which the proposed school will be located. ICSB staff will notify local media, the local school corporation, and any member of the media who has indicated that they wish to be notified pursuant to ODL procedures. Prior to the public hearings, community members may download Charter Application submissions from the Current Application Cycle page of ICSB's website. Applications are posted online approximately one week following the application deadline.
Format
The purpose of the public hearing is to record comments from community members about the potential impact of the proposed charter school(s) upon the community. A public hearing is not a Q & A session with ICSB representatives or applicant groups. In addition, the hearing is not a forum to discuss other public school options (whether district or charter) in the community. Anyone who wishes to make a comment must sign in at the start of the hearing. All comments will be limited to three (3) minutes; however, in addition to, or in lieu of, attending a public hearing, community members are invited to submit a public comment, statement, or other document, via email to the following address: charter-applications@icsb.in.gov. All public comments made at the hearing are recorded and transcribed, combined with all email comments, and provided to ICSB board members as part of the Charter approval process. Please note that all emails sent to ICSB are subject to Indiana's Public Access Laws.
