Article in the Vincennes Western Sun January 4 1817

The following article announcing the achievement of statehood of Indiana appeared in the Vincennes newspaper, "The Western Sun" on January 4, 1817:

The Editor, tenders to his readers, the usual salutations, upon the opening of the new year, & wishes them health, peace, and competence.

We are requested to state, that there will be a meeting of the citizens of the county of Knox, on Saturday the 11th of this instant, at the house of William Bruce, esq. at 11 o'clock, A.M. to fix upon some persons to be supported as county commissioners, &c.

Agreeably to the law of the state, the election for county officers, is to be held on the first Monday in February next- The law was received by the last mail, and shall appear in our next.

The State of Indiana, has, by a joint resolution of both houses of Congress, been received into the union, our Senators and Representative have accordingly been qualified and taken their seats. On classing our Senators, the honorable W. Taylor, has three, and Noble, five years to serve.
