EMPOWERED 2 Be Fit

EMPOWERED 2 Be Fit (E2BF) is an extension of the previous IDOH-OMH initiative Enhancing Minority Partnership Opportunities: Working to Eliminate Racial and Ethnic Disparities (EMPOWERED). E2BF will be made up of 9-week interventions focusing on physical activity and nutrition for adults who are classified as obese based on body mass index (BMI). The primary participant pool for this project will be racial and ethnic minorities that live in Allen, Lake, and Marion Counties. The project will provide nutritional support and physical activity using the evidence-based curriculum of Eating Smart * Being Active (ESBA).

In addition to the ESBA curriculum, participants will have access to Noom, a digital health platform that provides users with personalized weight management resources and support. Noom uses psychology, technology, and health coaching to help individuals meet their health and wellness goals. The E2BF initiative will use the ESBA curriculum and Noom to accomplish the following goals:

  • Goal 1: Increase physical activity among adult racial and ethnic minorities in Allen, Lake, and Marion Counties.
  • Goal 2: Increase knowledge of nutritional and healthy lifestyle choices among adult racial and ethnic minorities in Allen, Lake, and Marion Counties.

To accomplish these goals, IDOH-OMH will partner with the Indiana Minority Health Coalition and organizations in the target counties to successfully implement the program.
