Judicial Appointments

Pursuant to Article 5, Section 18 of the Indiana Constitution and Indiana Code, the Governor of the State of Indiana has the authority to fill judicial vacancies as they occur in the state.

Current Vacancies

As a general rule, the application period for judicial openings will be 30 days after posting on this website.  Notwithstanding, the Governor’s Office may extend the application period in its sole judgment or discretion.


Below are new judicial openings for four positions in three counties, each of which has an application period of Monday, February 15, 2021 through Wednesday, March 17, 2021.

  • Clark County Superior Courts #5 and #6
    The Office of Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb is now accepting applications for the position of judge in the Clark County Superior Court.

    The Indiana General Assembly authorized two Superior Courts for Clark County to begin operations on July 1, 2021. The new superior courts will exist until they are replaced by two Circuit Courts which will begin operations on January 1, 2025.  The person(s) selected for the Superior Courts will serve a term which will end as of January 1, 2025.

    Qualified applicants should complete and submit the judicial application found below by no later than 5:00 p.m. on March 17, 2021.

Applications should be sent to the Governor’s Office preferably via email (judicialapplications@gov.in.gov) or alternatively by hard copy (Governor’s Office, Attn: Joseph R. Heerens, State House Room 206, Indianapolis, Indiana 46204).

  • Marshall County Superior Court #3
    The Office of Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb is now accepting applications for the position of judge in the Marshall County Superior Court.

    The Indiana General Assembly authorized a new Superior Court for Marshall County.  The new court will begin operations on July 1, 2021. The person selected will serve until a successor is chosen in the next general election which will be held in November 2022.

    Qualified applicants should complete and submit the judicial application found below by no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 2021.

Applications should be returned to the Governor’s Office preferably via email (judicialapplications@gov.in.gov) or alternatively by hard copy (Governor’s Office, Attn: Joseph R. Heerens, State House Room 206, Indianapolis, Indiana 46204).

  • Wayne County Circuit Court
    The Office of Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb is now accepting applications for the position of judge for the Wayne County Circuit Court.

    A vacancy will occur on June 9, 2021, upon the retirement of Circuit Judge David Kolger. The person selected will serve until a successor is chosen in the next general election which will be held in November 2022.

    Qualified applicants should complete and submit the judicial application found below by no later than 5:00 pm on Wednesday, March 17, 2021.
