Summer Pandemic EBT

Summer P-EBT is for all students determined eligible to receive free and reduced meals for the 2020-2021 school year. This issuance is for ALL National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program students and ALL students that attend a Community Eligibility Provision school. Students and their schools do not need to participate in a summer school program to receive this benefit.

The summer period is a separate submission and is not tied to a specific month. The option to offer summer meals and school attendance is not an eligibility factor. It will cover the summer period identified as a total of 55 days.

Benefits will be loaded to existing P-EBT cards for each eligible child. A new P-EBT card will be issued to students that have not previously received any type of P-EBT benefit.

Student data for this summer period will be collected May 1 – May 28, 2021. Please be advised corrections cannot be accepted after the submission window has closed, even if students were accidentally missed during the submission period.

  1. Our school will not be in session during June 2021. Are we required to complete a submission for June? Or do we still need to submit the list of eligible students and days?

You are still required to complete a submission for June; however, you do not need to submit a list of students or eligible days for June if there is no school attendance in that month. See the instructions below for required reporting with zero P-EBT eligible days:

If you are an eligible school and have no P-EBT eligible days to report for a specific month, please follow the submission instructions below:

    New school submission screen shot

    • Enter your Tier 1 school information
    • Select "School did not have any students absent due to public health emergency"

This will update your submissions saying you are eligible but have no students to report. It will also remove you from the notification listings.

  2. What months are considered summer?

The Summer P-EBT is a separate submission and has a specific number of days (55) for the summer that has been determined by USDA/FNS. The summer submission is not tied to any month and the option for summer meals or attendance is not an eligibility factor for the summer P-EBT. For the summer submission, you are required to submit all free/ reduced lunch students without a number of days specified, as these days are already pre-determined. For schools operating under CEP all students are eligible for summer P-EBT.

  3. Do I still submit my free and reduced students even though they will not be attending summer school and we do not provide meals in the summer?

The summer P-EBT is separate submission and has a specified set number of days (55) that was determined by USDA/FNS. Summer school attendance and providing meals during this timeframe are not eligibility factors for the summer P-EBT. All students that are eligible for free/reduced lunch will qualify for the summer P-EBT. Please submit all free/reduced lunch students without a number of days specified.

  4. If my school operates under the CEP program does that mean I would submit every student with zero days?

Yes. All students that attend a CEP school are eligible for the summer P-EBT and should be submitted without a number of days listed.

  5. What are the eligibility criteria for summer P-EBT?

The eligibility criteria for the summer P-EBT are:

  1. School is a participant of the NSLP, School Breakfast Program, or CEP (School is NOT required to offer summer programs)
  2. Student must be eligible for free or reduced lunch
  3. Students identified to graduate with the Class of 2021 ARE eligible to be included in the school listing
  4. What is the issuance amount for Summer P-EBT?

Each eligible student will receive $375.10 for the summer timeframe. This is a one-time issuance.

  5. When will I receive the one-time issuance?

The issuance will be available by June 30, 2021. Please note this date is estimated.

  6. How was the Summer P-EBT amount calculated?

The benefit amount is $6.82 per day. USDA/FNS determined the number of days for the summer timeframe as 55 days ($6.82*55=$375.10).

  7. When can schools begin submitting data for the summer timeframe?

Data can be submitted beginning May 1 and closing May 28, 2021. Corrections will not be accepted for the summer timeframe after this window closes. It is critical that schools complete their submissions by May 28, 2021. Corrections will not be accepted for the summer P-EBT issuance.

  8. If my school offers meals to families during the summer, will they still qualify for the summer P-EBT?

Yes, these students will still qualify for the summer benefit. The option for summer meals or attendance is not an eligibility factor for the summer P-EBT.
