Construction
DURATION: 2 – 4 years
APPLICABLE SKILLS: Coordination, Complex Problem Solving, Critical Thinking, Installation, Mathematics
Were you an ace in woodshop? Do you spend hours working with tools, building or repairing things in your home? Are you a math whiz? Construction workers may work on a variety of projects, including those for businesses, schools, on highways, in private homes, and many other sites. A construction worker can spend long hours outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather. They may also work in small indoor areas for a prolonged time. A construction worker often works in physically strenuous conditions and might stand, walk, crawl or squat for multiple hours at a time. Their jobs may involve some physical risk, which is why proper usage and maintenance of heavy machinery and tools is vital.
Construction workers work various schedules and may need to be available during the day, at night and on the weekend. They usually work full-time hours and may work overtime if they need to finish a project on time. A construction worker might also work seasonally depending on their job site, as it may be too cold to work outdoors in certain areas during the winter.

Healthcare
DURATION: 1 year

Do you enjoy being a caregiver and healing others? Do you like living a healthy lifestyle and educating others how to do the same? Have you always had an interest in how the human body works? Health science workers promote health and wellness and diagnose and treat injuries and disease. In the healthcare field, you could work directly with patients. You could also work in a laboratory to get information used in research or provide administrative support by keeping medical records.
Health science jobs are found at a variety of different sites, some that might be unexpected. For example, you could work in a hospital, office, clinic, or nursing home. Or you could work on a cruise ship, at a sports arena, or within a patient’s home.

Information Technology
DURATION: 1 – 2 years

Are you the person your friends call when their computer won’t turn on? Do you follow the latest product launches in the tech industry? Have you ever dreamt of building your own video game? In the information technology industry, you might work with computer hardware, software, multimedia, or network systems. You could design new computer equipment or work on that computer game you’ve always imagined. Or, you might support others and answer questions about specific software or hardware.

Manufacturing
DURATION: 1 – 4 years

Do you enjoy working with your hands? Have you ever taken apart a machine and put it together again? Do you try to fix your own car before you bring it to the shop? Manufacturing workers work with products and equipment. You might design a new product, decide how it will be made, or make the product itself. You could work on anything from computers, appliances, and other electronics to cars, trucks, and airplanes.
Other manufacturing workers install or repair products. For example, you might install refrigerators or washers, repair plumbing in commercial buildings, or diagnose engine problems in cars and trucks.

Utilities
DURATION: 2 – 3 years

If you’ve ever lost power before, you know how debilitating it can be to your day. You know the feeling of relief when help finally arrives to fix the issue. How would you like to be the person who fixes the utilities people rely on every day? The utilities industry includes companies that generate, transmit, and distribute electrical power and natural gas, treat and distribute fresh water, and treat wastewater. In the utilities industry, you will maintain and fix systems that people use and rely on every day. The simple act of walking into a restroom, turning on the light, and washing your hands uses the products of perhaps four different utilities. Electricity, gas, and water are used continuously throughout each day. As a result, it’s common to work split, weekend, and night shifts in the utility industry. Some employees may need to work overtime to accommodate peaks in demand and to repair damage caused by weather and accidents, so you should have the ability to work a flexible schedule. If you enjoy working outside, many utility jobs allow the opportunity for this.

What is a Pre-Apprenticeship Program?
Pre-Apprenticeship is a program or set of strategies that is designed to prepare individuals to enter and succeed in a Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP).
What are the Elements of a Quality Pre-Apprenticeship Program?
Quality pre-apprenticeship programs can play a valuable role in providing work-based learning to help people prepare for an entry-level RAP. While Pre-Apprenticeship programs have varied designs and approaches, the elements of a quality pre-apprenticeship program are below.
Related Training – “classroom” training based on industry standards and approved by a registered apprenticeship partner.
Experience – hands-on training or volunteer opportunities that do not displace paid employees; can be unpaid or paid.
RAP Partnership – agreement with at least one registered apprenticeship sponsor that allows program participants to enter directly into a RAP.
Mentorship – pre-apprentices are mentored by people who are experts in their field.
Certified Registered - These programs are reviewed and certified by the State of Indiana to ensure quality.
