Floodplain Management Training
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is a proven partner to FEMA with a history of providing, maintaining, and improving floodplain management services throughout the state.
Floodplain Management Events & Training
DNR's Floodplain Management Section will be hosting this workshop in June. The workshop will be discussing Letters of Map Change (LOMCs) and FEMA’s no-rise requirement. It will also familiarize the attendee with the forms used and what must be maintained for compliance with minimum National Flood Insurance Program requirements.
Floodplain administrators and any other local officials who work with floodplain development permits are encouraged to attend. The workshop will offer continuing education credits (CECs) for Certified Floodplain Managers (CFM).
This two-hour workshop will be offered four times:
- Tuesday, June 23 from 9 – 11 a.m. ET
- Tuesday, June 23 from 1 – 3 p.m. ET
- Thursday, June 25 from 10 a.m. – noon ET
- Thursday, June 25 from 2 – 4 p.m. ET
All sessions will cover the same material and be held virtually on Microsoft Teams. Use the link below to register for the session you wish to attend.
You will receive a calendar invite with the meeting link a few days after registering.

There is now another option to obtain floodplain management training at no cost for the community. The Division of Water has partnered with the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM) to develop an interactive online course. Simply follow the link below, create an account (or sign-in if you already have one), and complete the course. The course is self-paced and will track your progress, generating a certificate upon completion of all included activities and knowledge checks. If you take this course to comply with IC 14-28-3-7.2, the certificate must be submitted to dowfpm@dnr.IN.gov to verify compliance.
Recorded Workshops and Training
In partnership with FEMA, the DNR Division of Water is implementing and updating training videos. These videos are intended for use by floodplain administrators, other local officials, or property owners. The videos and web pages broaden knowledge of floodplain management and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) requirements. Videos will be maintained and updated on this site for those who did not have an opportunity to attend the workshops in person or virtually or those who wish to have a refresher on a particular topic. If you do not find a topic of interest below, contact us at DNRFPM@dnr.IN.gov for more information.
