Off Roading on County Roads

Laws governing ORV use on public roads are made individually by each county. Counties may have different requirements and restrictions. Please review county ordinances before riding. You may also wish to contact your local government or your local DNR Law Enforcement District.

Per off-road vehicle (ORV) manufacturers, ORVs are designed for off-road use only and should not be driven on public roads.

Restrictions may include but are not limited to:

  • Township restrictions
  • Specific road restrictions
  • Vehicle type restrictions
  • Age restrictions
  • Allowed hours of operation
  • Insurance requirements
  • Helmet requirements
  • Head/tail light requirements
  • Vehicle width restrictions
