The Historic Mansfield Roller Mill is managed by Raccoon State Recreation Area. The historic Mansfield Roller Mill is open for the Mushroom Festival in April and the Covered Bridge Festival in October. The Historic Mansfield Roller Mill exemplifies the transition between Indiana’s pre-industrial agrarian society and the industrial powerhouse it became in the 20th century. This mill was state of the art when it was constructed in 1880 and continued to be top of the line until it hit hard times in the 1920’s. It continued to operate as a feed mill into the 1960’s until shutting down commercially in 1967 after the death of the owner Harry Reeves and its sale to old west movie star, and Parke County Native, Tex Terry and his wife. After changing hands several times, the mill was donated to the State of Indiana by the Dalton and Hutchinson families in 1995. The mill contains one of the few working water-powered turbines in the state with its Rodney Hunt Turbine installed at the Mansfield Mill in 1886! This turbine is located in a pit beneath the mill basement and has been powering the north half of the mill for 140 years.
