Next Level Trails Round Two Application Period
Applications for Round Two of the Next Level Trails program will be accepted beginning October 1, 2019. All applications must be submitted electronically by 5 p.m. ET on November 1, 2019 to be considered for funding. Paper, incomplete and/or late applications will not be accepted.
How to Apply or Re-Apply
Pre-Application: Ensure your project is eligible by reviewing the Overview of the Next Level Trails Grant Program. Next, review the NLT Grant Application Handbook for detailed application instructions. Additionally, consider attending an NLT workshop or view the NLT webinar to learn more.
Step 1: New Applicants: Use the application packet checklist to gather all of the information needed for the application packet. Fill out the application form, following the instructions, and electronically submit your application packet to nextleveltrails@dnr.IN.gov by the application deadline.
Applicants Re-applying: Applicants not awarded funds in previous rounds may re-apply for the next round. Those deemed eligible from the previous round may simply re-submit a new application form to nextleveltrails@dnr.IN.gov by the application deadline. Those whose applications did not meet programmatic requirements must re-submit a new application form as well as submit the necessary documents showing they now meet programmatic requirements. All applicants re-applying are welcome to amend or alter applications if they desire. ONLY documents showing these changes need to be included in the re-application email. Applicants re-applying should NOT re-submit their entire application unless it has undergone significant changes.
*Please note the file size limit for the nextleveltrails@dnr.IN.gov email account is 19 MB. If your email is larger, please consider either splitting your application into multiple, smaller emails OR email a request for an invite to use Syncplicity, a free file-sharing service used by the State of Indiana. If you plan to use Syncplicity please request the email invite no later than October 25. Applications submitted via Dropbox, Google Drive, Box, etc. will NOT be received.
Step 2: DNR Division of Outdoor Recreation staff will confirm receipt of your application. Staff may contact you with questions about the application or to request follow-up information.
Step 3: DNR Division of Outdoor Recreation staff will review each application to ensure it meets eligibility requirements and to complete a due-diligence process. They will then provide your application to the Next Level Trails Rating Committee, who will evaluate projects based on the preferences and considerations explained in the NLT Application Handbook. Upon completion of the review process, grant recipients will be officially notified of their award. Applicants not awarded will also be notified, and can re-apply for future rounds.
If Awarded: DNR Division of Outdoor Recreation staff will work with the grant recipient to complete a State contract. Projects must be completed within 4 years of the contract’s effective date or the grant funds may revert. Funds will be provided upfront based on project specific milestones detailed in the contract, which may include design and engineering, land acquisition, and construction. Grant recipients are responsible for submitting documentation for their match and all grant funds spent on eligible costs to the DNR for oversight.
