My Heart Your Heart
The Wayne County Coroner’s Office is proud to partner with “My Heart, Your Heart,” a thoughtful national initiative developed by the University of Michigan’s Frankel Cardiovascular Center. We are honored to be part of its mission to rescue and reuse donated pacemakers and implantable defibrillators for patients who lack access to these life‑saving devices
Reconditioned devices are distributed, primarily to patients in low and middle income areas who might otherwise go without essential care. The program has already redistributed tens of thousands of devices and launched international clinical trials.
By joining “My Heart, Your Heart,” we extend our commitment beyond death investigations. We support life‑saving measures and connect with communities worldwide, ensuring that compassion and service go hand in hand.
Indiana Donor Network
The Wayne County Coroner’s Office is proud to be a strong partner with the Indiana Donor Network. Through this partnership, we help ensure that the opportunity for organ, tissue, and cornea donation is honored with dignity and carried out with care.
We play a vital supporting role in coordinating with hospitals, donor families, and medical professionals during moments of loss. By facilitating communication and helping to identify potential donors, we assist in turning tragedy into hope, and loss into legacy.
The impact of this work is extraordinary. In 2024, the Indiana Donor Network coordinated 1,388 organ transplants, saving 1,216 lives. They also helped recover tissue and cornea donations from 1,592 individuals, resulting in over 17,000 tissues for healing and vision restoration. One organ donor alone can save up to eight lives, while a single tissue donor can improve the health and quality of life for more than 75 people.
Our partnership with the Indiana Donor Network reflects the heart of our mission and we are honored to support a program that brings comfort to grieving families and second chances to those in need.
Richmond Police Department S.A.F.E. Team
The Wayne County Coroner’s Office works in strong partnership with the Richmond Police Department’s S.A.F.E. Team (Strategic and Focused Enforcement), a specialized drug unit who also investigate overdose deaths and targeting the sources behind them. When a drug-related fatality occurs, our office provides detailed investigative information that can assist in identifying those responsible for distributing dangerous substances. This collaboration has played a key role in securing successful convictions, including cases of drug dealing resulting in death, helping to bring justice and closure to affected families. Together, we are taking a proactive stand against the deadly impact of drugs in our community, supporting both accountability and prevention.
