Hoosier START is the State of Indiana Public Employees’ Deferred Compensation Plan, administered by the Indiana Office of State Comptroller. Nationwide Retirement Solutions is the record-keeper, holding all participant accounts.
Participants are 100% vested from day one in their Hoosier START Plan which stands alongside the Indiana Public Retirement System (INPRS) for public employees. To learn more about INPRS, visit www.in.gov/inprs.
Access your Hoosier START Plan
State employees are auto-enrolled into the Plan 30 days after their date of hire. Once enrolled, it is easy to access your information by logging into your Hoosier START account where you can find guides on preparing for retirement, adjusting your contributions, adding or updating your beneficiary information, attending a webinar, or scheduling time with a retirement specialist.
Hoosier START Plan Options
Hoosier START offers both a 457(b) and a 401(a) Matching Plan as follows:
- 457(b) Traditional Deferred Compensation Plan — tax-deferred (pre-tax) contributions, available to eligible state employees and employees of local units of government which have adopted the Plan.
- 457(b) Roth Deferred Compensation Plan — after-tax contributions, available to all state employees and employees of local units of government which have adopted the Plan and offer the Roth option.
- 401(a) Matching Plan — tax-deferred (pre-tax) employer contributions available to eligible state employees. State employees may receive $15 per pay, or $390 per year, from the State with a matching contribution. Some participating local units of government also offer an employer match.
