If all the following statements are true, then you will need an emissions test:

• The vehicle is registered in Lake or Porter County
• The vehicle was manufactured after the year 1975
• The vehicle was manufactured 4 or more years ago (for example: calendar year=2026; year of vehicle=2022)
• The vehicle has a GVWR of 9000lbs or less
• The calendar year is even, and the vehicle was manufactured in a year that is even (for example: calendar year=2026; year of vehicle=2020), or the calendar year is odd, and the vehicle was manufactured in a year that is odd (for example: calendar year=2025; year of vehicle=2019)

All owners listed on the title record must also be reflected on the registration record, excluding lessees on leased vehicles and trustees on trust owned vehicles. Additional owners not listed on the title record cannot be added to the registration record.

If a vehicle’s registration expires on a day on which all license branches in the county of registration are closed, the administrative penalty is not charged until midnight on the date following the day a license branch in the county of registration is open for business after the vehicle’s expiration date.

Example: If a vehicle’s registration expires on Monday and all branches in that county are closed on Monday, but at least one branch is open on Tuesday, then no administrative penalty is charged on Tuesday or Wednesday. The penalty would begin on Thursday, even if the branches in that county happen to be closed on Wednesday.

In general, no. Certain situations such as obtaining a temporary registration or submitting an Affidavit of Nonuse before the registration expiration date may allow for the administrative penalty to be waived.

You will receive new registration documentation (registration certificate or plate) within 21 days.

You will be receiving a new license plate in the mail within 21 days.

Prior to registration or renewal a registration may:

• Change their legal address by providing 2 proofs of address
• Enter a One-Time mailing address during the registration transaction.

• Phone Access codes can be found on registration renewal notices.
• If you do not have your registration notification, you may reach out to the contact center to retrieve it.
• If there is not an access code associated with your registration, then an access code cannot be generated.

A registration reminder cannot be remailed.
