The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the core document used to apply for all types of student financial aid available through federal and state governments, as well as colleges and universities.

In order to be eligible for state financial aid, students must complete the correct academic year's FAFSA. All FAFSAs must be error-free by the edit correction deadline. A student's FAFSA may have edits that pertain only to State of Indiana award and scholarship programs. A student should check his or her eStudent account for a list of any edits that may be on the FAFSA. A student (and parents if student is dependent) must submit the FAFSA using a Personal Indentification Number (PIN) after making any changes or updates.

Even if a student's or parent's Federal income taxes are not complete by the FAFSA filing deadline, the FAFSA should be filed on or before the appropriate FAFSA deadline using ESTIMATED tax information.

The 2013-2014 FAFSA may be completed to claim the following programs for the 2013-2014 academic year. The 2013-2014 FAFSA will be available online after January 1, 2013.

Minority Teacher Scholarship FAFSA must be filed before student can complete online Scholarship application. Application Deadline is October 4, 2013. It takes 5 to 7 business days from filing for FAFSA data to be available in state's system. Therefore, FAFSA must be filed in time for student to meet application deadline.
Student Teaching Stipend for Minorities FAFSA must be filed before student can complete online Stipend application. Application Deadline is October 4, 2013 for students who are teaching during the Fall 2013 term. (Spring 2014 deadline to be determined.) It takes 5 to 7 business days from filing for FAFSA data to be available in state's system. Therefore, FAFSA must be filed in time for student to meet application deadline.
