SSACI > About Us > Mission Mission

The State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana’s (SSACI) mission is to make college affordable through need-based grants and to allow choice by granting awards to those attending public, independent & proprietary colleges. SSACI attempts to increase college preparation through its Twenty-first Century Scholar program and by giving increased grant amounts to those graduating from high school with Core 40 and Academic Honors Diplomas.

The State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana (SSACI) is one of the top-rated state financial aid agencies in the country. Since 1965 its mission has been

  • to make college affordable with need-based student grants;
  • to allow choice by granting awards to students attending public, independent & proprietary colleges; and
  • to increase college preparation by giving additional grants to students graduating from high school with Core 40 and Academic Honors Diplomas and to 21st Century Scholar

SSACI accomplishes its mission with:

  • Grant and Scholarship Programs for full-time and part-time college students;
  • Early Intervention programs for Twenty-first Century Scholars;
  • Research to better understand the needs of Hoosier students and families; and
  • Technology to make the delivery of awards as simple as possible for students and colleges.

In addition to making awards, SSACI promotes awareness of Indiana financial assistance programs through its World Wide Web site, guidance counselor workshops, financial aid nights, college fairs, community forums and other statewide events such as College Goal Sunday.
