Skip Navigation

The State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana (SSACI) is one of the top-rated state financial aid agencies in the country. Since 1965 its mission has been

  • to make college affordable with need-based student grants;
  • to allow choice by granting awards to students attending public, independent & proprietary colleges; and
  • to increase college preparation by giving additional grants to students graduating from high school with Core 40 and Academic Honors Diplomas and to 21st Century Scholar

SSACI accomplishes its mission with:

  • Grant and Scholarship Programs for full-time and part-time college students;
  • Early Intervention programs for Twenty-first Century Scholars;
  • Research to better understand the needs of Hoosier students and families; and
  • Technology to make the delivery of awards as simple as possible for students and colleges.

In addition to making awards, SSACI promotes awareness of Indiana financial assistance programs through its World Wide Web site, guidance counselor workshops, financial aid nights, college fairs, community forums and other statewide events such as College Goal Sunday.

The FAFSA is the core document necessary to apply for all types of student financial aid available through the state and federal governments as well as the colleges and universities. The completed FAFSA must be returned to the federal government and only the federal government. Do not send a copy to SSACI or your college.

Advisory: File on time; file online! Students are strongly encouraged to file the FAFSA electronically. However, NEW for the 2008-2009 is a PDF version of the FAFSA that students can submit for processing. The PDF version of the FAFSA will be available for download on various Federal Student Aid web sites, such as www.FederalStudentAid.ed.gov. Students can access the PDF, complete the form on the computer or by hand, and mail it to the address provided for processing. Students can still obtain a paper FAFSA by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center toll free at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243). Students may request up to three copies of the paper application and should receive their FAFSAs in 3 to 7 business days. But why wait 3-7 days to receive a paper FAFSA and then subject it to at least 3-7 days of mailing time when you can file online instantly? File on time; file online!
