ILHB Seeks Taskforce for Review of Public Library Standards

The Indiana Library & Historical Board is charging a taskforce to conduct an initial review of the first two years of the new Public Library Standards (590 IAC 6).   The Indiana State Library is seeking input from directors and trustees from libraries based upon both size and geographical distribution around the state.  We would like to have the first meeting of this taskforce by the end of January.  Meetings will be every other month thereafter. The taskforce will report to the ILHB of progress after each meeting.  It is anticipated that this taskforce will be convened for the duration of 2014 and make final recommendations to the ILHB by its December 12, 2014 meeting.

If you are interested in serving on this taskforce, please send your name and library to ldo@library.in.gov by 1/13/13.  Taskforce members will be selected and notified on 1/16/13.

INSPIRE Resource to Focus on Prevalent Topics in Librarianship

A new INPSIRE page, "Hot Topics," was recently unveiled and focuses on emerging eGovernment services, testing changes and other relevant issues. Currently, you will find the following topics:

• ACA Resources for Hoosiers: This portal helps Hoosiers navigate the ACA process.
• ACA Resources for Indiana Librarians: This portal aids librarians in answering ACA-related questions from patrons and better serving their respective communities.
• CORE Academic Skills Assessment (CASA): Effective September 1, 2013, CASA replaced Praxis I to satisfy the basic skills competency requirement for entry into Indiana educator preparation programs.
• Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC): Beginning in 2014, TASC replaces GED as Indiana's official high school equivalency test.

Each resource can connect your staff and patrons to relevant information for each respective topic. Please book mark the "Hot Topics" page as the Indiana State Library will continue to add to it as new topics and suggestions emerge. If you would like recommend a topic to be covered on INSPIRE, please email  inspire@library.in.gov.

LSTA Grant Opportunities Focus on Technology, Bicentennial

The Indiana State Library Development Office opened the application process for the 2014 LSTA grant program. The 2014 applications must be received by 4:00 PM EST on Friday, March 14th, 2014 and include the following opportunities for Indiana libraries and historical and cultural organizations:

• Technology Grants: Technology Grants help Indiana libraries provide their users with the new and improved technology necessary to meet their residents’ ever-changing needs for library services and access to information.
• Digitization Grants: The theme for the 2014 Digitization Grant Program is The Indiana Bicentennial. While adherence to the theme is not required, projects incorporating this theme are encouraged.
