Biographical Note:

Marshal Smith Wines was born June 28, 1800 near Morristown, New Jersey.  He married Elizabeth Tilley in November 1831 and together they had six children. Wines was employed as a contractor and engineer on the Wabash and Erie Canals.  He moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1833.  In 1838, he purchased the Coles Saw Mill and began operation of a flour mill.  He was an associate judge for Allen County 1837-1841. Wines served in the Indiana State House in 1841-1842 as a democrat.  M.S. Wines died on September 21, 1842 in Attica, Indiana and is interred in Lindenwood Cemetery in Fort Wayne.

Elizabeth Tilley Wines was born April 28, 1809 in Bladensurg, Maryland.  Due to her husbands work on the canals, the responsibility of management of the Coles Saw Mill and flour mill was chiefly hers.  Elizabeth Wines died November 24, 1880 and is interred in Lindenwood Cemetery in Fort Wayne.

Catharine Susan Wines Hoffman was born November 16, 1834.  She was the daughter of M.S. and Elizabeth Wines.  She married Jacob Frances Hoffman on May 10, 1853 and together they had two children. Catherine Hoffman died December 15, 1922 and is interred in Lindenwood Cemetery.

Jacob Hoffman, Jr. was born in Baltimore Maryland on December 20, 1790. He married Mary Magdalene Stemble in 1816 and together they had seven children. They moved to Attica, Indiana in 1840s. He died August 14, 1869.

Jacob Frances Hoffman was born September 2, 1826 in Fredrick, Maryland; he was the son of Jacob and Mary Hoffman. He worked as merchant in Attica, Indiana. In 1849 he went to California for the gold rush but later returned to Attica. He married Catharine Susan Wines in 1853. Jacob Frances Hoffman died September 22, 1860.
