Family History and Genealogy

Services we provide
- Basic research assistance related to Indiana genealogy and family history
- Answers to queries requiring resources unique to the Indiana State Library's Genealogy Division
- Registration for programs held by the Genealogy Division, such as Family History Orientation Tours, workshops, and other events
- Response within 10 business days for most research questions

Services we cannot provide
- Extensive research in genealogy or heraldry, due to time and staff constraints. A list of unaffiliated researchers available for hire is available from the Genealogy Division and the Indiana Division
-Searches for obituaries; the Indiana Division will make copies of obituaries for which you have an exact citation, or you can obtain the newspapers you need through Interlibrary loan.
