Health Geo User Group

The Health Geographics User Group is a community of individuals which utilize geospatial concepts and technologies for public health initiatives.  The group is currently estalishing a member base within the department through the utilization of GIS software by epidemiologists.  Participation will become available to all health partners throughout the state.  The groups seeks to provide:

  • Peer support of methodologies and projects
  • Peer review of cartographic products
  • Documentation of best practices and standards
  • Project presentations and knowledge sharing
  • Workshops and continued learning
  • Integration of geospatial technology
  • Software support

Prerequisites for Participation

In order for users to offer effective collaboration and benefits, the group requires new users to have experience in geospatial concepts and technologies.  Mentorships or training may be available for new users.  Qualified individuals should have completed one of the following:

  • Training through a state certified instructor
  • Training through a certified vendor
  • Training through on-line courses
  • Training through User Group mentorship
  • College Coursework

User Resources

Web Map Viewer (Beta) Now Available for Testing:

  • Investigate county data and statistics
  • Load your own county data for mapping
  • Explore locations of health or health-related activities
  • Load your own sites into the map
  • Define areas of interest
  • Identify and measure locations within areas of interest
  • Mash-up webmaps from other sources
  • Load custom menus developed for specific projects

Data and features are still being added to the map viewer, but feel free to test and provide feedback.  ISDH PHG does not  guarantee the accuracy of the content provided in the Map Viewer.  The Map Viewer should currently only be used for exploratory purposes.
