Why does IPAS establish Priorities?

Federal directives require that priorities be established for economy of agency resources, staff and money. Present funding levels do not allow IPAS to address every issue. In most instances, IPAS references the priorities to determine what cases to pursue. Typically, IPAS services are provided free of charge.

Interested parties are invited to submit comments or suggestions as to proposed priorities for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, 2012 in writing, by phone (TTY) or by email, using the "Contact IPAS" link on the upper left of this page.

How are IPAS Priorities established?

The IPAS Commission reviews and considers information from the following sources:

  • Progress of IPAS toward the current goals.
  • Surveys of former clients and potential clients.
  • Information gathered by agency staff on unmet needs, especially needs of the most vulnerable populations.
  • Additional comments from the public regarding the agency's progress, and comments on pressing issues, are obtained via the following methods:
    • Focus groups of consumers,
    • Correspondence received by the agency, and
    • Public comments made during the Commissioners' meetings.
    • For issues concerning mental illness, additional advice is received from the Mental Illness Advisory Council (MIAC).
