Beginning with the first quarter estimated premiumtax due April 15, 2012, the Indiana Department of Insurance(IDOI) is partnering with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) in the use of OPTins, an online premium tax filing system. OPTins offers insurance companies the ability to submit their quarterly and annual premium tax filings, annual renewal fees and payments electronically. Insurance companies are not mandated to use OPTins, but the IDOI encourages the companies to use the OPTins system to help facilitate the processing of quarterly estimated premium tax filings for 2012 and for all future filings. IDOI does request once a company starts using OPTins to make such filings, the company continues to do so for ease of record keeping and auditing purposes.
