Micrographics and Imaging Services

Image: microfilm Microfilm your past and present Indiana government records for the future! We will microfilm your records to the highest quality standards. Using standards prescribed by 60 IAC 2 and the Indiana Rules of Court, Administrative Rule 6 for permanent preservation. This rule gives us the parameters for Density and Resolution, and the specific targets that are required for every roll of film. We follow this rule to ensure that the documents that we put on film today will be accessible up to 500 years from now!

Scanning / Digital Services

For those who would like the preservation of their permanent records, along with the ease of accessibility of a CD, we have cameras that will allow us to film on 16mm and scan at the same time. The filming side films as a rotary camera filming upwards of 15,000 images per day. As the machine films, it also scans the document. All documents are scanned into a Tiff group 4 format. We create a “batch” file, and all the documents within the file are placed into the batch. When accessing the file from the CD, the user would simply open the batch file needed and view the documents within the batch.

We have acquired several new machines that will allow us to convert your non-archival paper documents to digital Tiff group 4 images. We can then do a couple of things with the images:

  1. If the images only need to be kept for a short time, we can write them directly to CD.
  2. For longer storage, we recommend that the images be written to film via our Archive Writers.

Traditional Microfilming Services on 16mm and 35mm cameras

All standard documents, including business card up to legal size, can be filmed on 16mm film. Each roll will hold approximately 2500 images per roll. The pricing for each roll includes film, filming, processing, duplication, acid free and kraft storage boxes, and spool.

Larger documents such as books, newspapers and blueprints, need to be filmed on 35mm film. Each roll will hold approximately 500 images (depending on size of document). The pricing for each roll includes film, filming, processing, duplication, acid free and kraft storage boxes, and spool.

  1. Processing: We have our own in-house processor that allows us to process both 16mm and 35mm films. We run control strips on our processor every day to ensure that it is set consistently. Each roll is processed and inspected for density, resolution and the required targets.
  2. Duplication: We offer duplication of both 16mm and 35mm films on either diazo or vesicular film.
  3. Cartridge loading of 16mm film.

It should also be noted that all master film will be stored in the Commission on Public Records climate-controlled vault at the Indiana State Archives at no additional cost.
