Following the dedication, two baseball teams, White River from Conner Prairie and a team from Indianapolis played a baseball game observing 1885 rules. Among the differences from the modern game—each batter was allowed 7 balls and 3 strikes; if the pitcher hit the batter with the baseball, first base was not awarded; the batter could tell the pitcher where he wanted the ball thrown (high, middle, low); and the fielding gloves had open fingers and very little padding.
