The Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR) continues to implement increased security measures to protect Hoosiers and the state from identity theft and identity fraud. Since its inception in 2014, the Identity Protection Program has stopped more than $100 million in fraudulent refund attempts.
How Identity Confirmation Works
If you received a letter from DOR, you first will need to make sure the name(s) and address information at the top of the letter matches an Indiana income tax return you recently filed. If the information is not accurate or you have not filed an Indiana tax return, you may call DOR at 317-233−1642, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. EST for assistance.
If the information at the top of the letter does match your recently filed Indiana income tax return, all you need to do is complete a simple Identity Confirmation Quiz. This quiz should take no more than two minutes and will help us protect your refund and identity. Once your quiz is complete, we will be able to continue processing your return.
