Clerk Treasurer

Responsibilities of the Clerk-Treasurer

The Clerk-Treasurer, a four-year elected official, serves as the fiscal officer of the City of Southport. The Clerk-Treasurer processes the receipts and expenditures of all City money; prescribes the payroll for the City; determines the manner in which vendors, officers, and employees are paid; manages the City’s financial accounts; makes all investments on behalf of the City; prepares the budget estimates of revenue, financial statements, and the proposed tax rate and works with the various boards, council, and mayor to prepare an estimate of expenditures; manages all City records; serves as the Clerk of the City Council, Board of Public Works & Safety and the Storm Water Utility Board by preparing agendas, recording proceedings and maintaining custody of records. The Clerk-Treasurer also serves as the treasurer of the Redevelopment Commission. In addition, the Clerk-Treasurer’s office receives processes and issues contractor’s licenses and permits and manages the rental of the Community Room & Shelter House.

The City’s financial state is strong. We have several big projects in the works. To learn more about what is happening, please plan to attend meetings where the details are worked out. The RDC meets on the second Monday of the month at 7 pm. The Board of Public Works & Safety meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 7 pm. The Storm Water Utility Board meets on the third Monday of the month at 6:30 pm. The Common Council meets on the third Monday of the month at 7 pm.

performance measures. We strive to utilize your tax dollars as efficiently and effectively as possible and we look forward to sharing this information with you.

Trades’ Licenses & Building Permits are processed through the office of the Clerk-Treasurer. You may scan and email your completed, signed forms, mail them or bring them to my office during business hours.

General Contractor Residential – $150 Commercial – $200
HVAC Residential – $150 Commercial – $200
Electrical Residential – $150 Commercial – $200
Plumber Residential – $150 Commercial – $200

COMMUNITY ROOM & SHELTERHOUSE RENTAL INFORMATION

You must pay the $200 Deposit payable to the City of Southport in order to guarantee your reservation. If the reservation is canceled within 4 weeks of the rental date, the entire deposit is forfeited.  Please note, your deposit CANNOT be used towards the rental fee. The Guarantee Hold Deposit and Rental fee are two separate fees.  
The Rental Fee, payable to the City of Southport, must be paid with your pick-up key card.
