Griffy Lake | The new fishing walkway is very popular for anglers. Anglers are targeting Bass, Bluegill, Crappie and Channel Catfish. Parking lot fills quickly so plan on arriving early in the morning. | 5/2/2024 |
Huntingburg Lake | The Saugeye are biting well around the old submerged dam in the shallows. The best lures to use when targeting saugeye at huntingburg are stick/jerk baits, small swimbaits, and minnows. | 5/9/2024 |
JC Murphey (Willow Slough) | The lake has refilled to about 30 inches below average pool. This will hopefully allow vegetation to continue to rebound especially in the back of the lake following the renovation. Fish were stocked into the lake in the fall of 2023 with more stocking occurring in 2024. Fish salvaged from the lake before draining have been stocked back into the lake, with some catchable size bluegill, crappie, and largemouth bass. There will be limited angling opportunities for harvestable sized fish in 2024 except for the larger spawning sized fish from the salvage units. Lake Michigan (boat) | The coho bite continues to be pretty good, but has been more hit or miss lately, with swings in weather and warming surface temps. With water temps in the mid 50s,the bite has been moving offshore a bit more. Spoons on riggers, long lines, and divers have taken good numbers of fish, along with mini flies and dodgers. Some kings and steelhead are in the mix as well, especially offshore, but with some rain and warming temps some early skamania have been caught near the pierheads in Michigan City and Portage. The perch bite has started to fall off significantly as they start spawning. The smallmouth bite has been pretty good near rip rap and marinas, and some are starting to bed in protected areas. | 5/16/2024 |
Lake Michigan (shore) | A few early skamania have been caught at Portage and Michigan City. A few alewife are in the harbors. Catfish and drum are starting to bite, and bass are starting to bed in protected areas. Be advised that due to heavy construction at the Port of Indiana, the shore fishing site there will be closed through summer 2024. | 5/16/2024 |
Lake Michigan Tributaries (Trail Creek, Little Calumet River, Salt Creek) | A few early skamania are showing up, but not in huge numbers. Anglers willing to cover water and put in some time can get rewarded right now with a few skamania, because they are aggressive with cool water temps and low angler pressure. Monroe Lake | Lake Temperature is upper 60s to low 70s. According to the ACOE the lake is 4 feet high and they are discharging 2055 CFS. Anglers are catching wipers in the tailwaters. Anglers have been targetting Bass and Crappie. One angler reported it is hard to find crappie minnows. | 5/2/2024 |
Patoka Lake | The water temperature was 73 on Thursday, 5/2/24. Largemouth Bass are concentrated in the upper part of the lake around stickups. | 5/2/2024 |

St. Joseph River (below Twin Branch Dam) | The spring steelhead run is mostly over. Now is the transition time to early summer fishing… bass are nearing spawn, walleyes are wrapped up with their spawn. Use jerkbaits, jigs, and cranks for bass and walleye. Catfish are feeding heavily as well, on live bait. Monitor the river temp and flow at the closest USGS gauge in Niles, MI using the links below the report table | 5/2/2024 |
Starve Hollow Lake | water temps were in the mid 70’s. Bluegill, redear and crappie being caught on redworms and crickets. Bluegill and redear seemed close to spawning and should be moving to beds soon. Largemouth bass are biting on topwater lures. | 5/8/2024 |
