About

Mount Carmel is a small town in Franklin County, Indiana, established in 1837, taking its name from the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church. With a population of about 75 residents, our town offers a quiet, rural lifestyle surrounded by farmland and scenic countryside. Once a local center of commerce with shops and trades, Mount Carmel now reflects the charm and simplicity of small-town living. Current local businesses include an auto repair garage and a 3rd generation family-owned grain mill. We take pride in our history, our friendly neighbors, and our peaceful setting – a place where tradition and community still thrive.

Mount Carmel is governed by a local town board that oversees municipal services and community affairs. Public safety is supported by the Town Marshal and police department, as well as the Drewersburg Volunteer Fire Department. The volunteer fire department has been functioning since 1986. Both work together to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.

Students in Mount Carmel are served by the Franklin County Community School Corporation, which provides educational opportunities from elementary through high school. Elementary aged students can attend Mount Carmel Elementary School, located just outside of town.

Residents have access to parks, churches, and community events throughout the county, with larger services and amenities located in nearby Brookville and surrounding communities. Local community events include annual trick-or-treating. We invite residents and visitors to get involved – your participation helps us host more community events and strengthen the spirit of our town.
