In December of 2025, the town of Farmersburg was awarded up to $576,000.00 in Community Crossing Matching Grant Funds through INDOT for the Main Street Reconstruction Project, Phase 1, from 5th Avenue to CR 200.  The project was bid in February of 2026.  The low, responsive, responsible bidder was DC Construction Services at $490,214.39.  INDOT participation through matching funds is expected at $367,917.11.  The scope of the project includes removing the old concrete street and replacing it with a new asphalt street and providing a new sidewalk along the south side of the street.  There will be times during construction when Main Street from 5th Avenue to CR 200 will be closed to through traffic.  Property owners within the project limits will retain access to their properties.  The old concrete street will be removed exposing the underlying earth.  The exposed earth will undergo a chemical stabilization to provide a solid foundation for the new asphalt street.  The chemical stabilization involves mixing a slurry form of lime into the soil through mechanical means.  A slurry form is being used to minimize dust.   The contractor advises that there will be an approximate 30 minutes of curing time needed before traffic can use the stabilized earth.  After the soil stabilization is complete layers of aggregate and asphalt will be placed to construct the new road.  A new sidewalk will be constructed along the south side of the street from 5th Avenue to the Park Plaza Apartments.  The new sidewalk will be constructed in line with the old sidewalk.  The back of sidewalk will be at the right of way line.  New concrete drives will be constructed along the south side of the road from edge of pavement to back of sidewalk.  The contractor will coordinate driveway curing times with affected property owners.  Any gravel or asphalt drive on the north side of the street will receive a five-foot paved asphalt apron.  Any existing concrete drive on the north side of the street will not be disturbed.  The contractor will be contacting affected property owners prior to beginning construction.  The anticipated construction start date is late July or early August with project completion set for October 30, 2026.  At this time, we are working to get additional phases of Main Street lined up for future grant opportunities.  The next section we are focusing on is Main Street from 2nd Avenue to 5th Avenue.  INDOT has indicated that the next grant opportunity will be sometime between July and September of this year.
