ATTORNEY / INMATE PHONE INFORMATION
Procedure Updated: 04/21/2022
Greetings,
If you are legal counsel for inmates housed at the Jasper County Detention Center (Jail) we wanted to offer information on Attorney –Inmate communication made available to your office.
Inmates are allowed to use phones located in their cell pods to dial their Attorney’s at will during daytime hours from 7:00 a.m. CST until 11:00 p.m. CST. We have accumulated over 200 Attorney Phone numbers over the years that are not recorded and are toll free when using the cell pod phones. We would be glad to add any new numbers you may have which you can give us when visiting or by calling 219-866-4993 in the jail and ask for the the Jail Commander or the Assistant Jail Commander.
Inmates are also allowed to use United States Postal Service to contact their Attorney.
The Inmates will at times request to use book-in phones due to not getting through to their Attorney. The Inmates rule book clearly explains that phone calls from the book in area may be recorded, and we would advise the inmate to communicate on the unrecorded phones in the cell pods.
The Inmates have recently been given access to a “chirping” option for communication outside the jail. This option is similar to texting on a cell phone. This service is not confidential and the inmate is aware of this when signing up for the service.
I wanted to make sure your office is aware of the communication options at the Jasper County Detention Center and how to navigate that service.
Sincerely,
Pat Williamson
Sheriff, Jasper County
