Special Deputy Confinement Officer (DeKalb County Jail, Auburn, Indiana)

This position offers competitive pay, PTO, and benefits package

• Probationary Pay (1^st Year) $35,782 yearly / $16.38 hourly
• Confinement Officer (2^nd year) $36,782 yearly / $16.84 hourly
• Longevity Pay
• 12 hour shifts (6a-6p); (6p-6a)- every other weekend off

Essential Functions

• Answer phones, observe facility monitors and security door controls in the master control room
• Assist visitors and other agencies who come into the facility
• Assist with keeping the facility clean and organized
• Ensures compliance with the current jail standards
• Escorts inmates in and out of the facility as directed following proper procedure
• Follows the departments “Employee Standards of Conduct”
• Issue commissary, laundry and hygiene products to inmates on a regular schedule
• Maintain a current CPR certification
• Maintain an accurate and up to date log of all shift activities
• Monitor all inmate activities and assist inmates with request that are made
• Monitor and maintain both the interior and exterior security of the facility
• Oversee inmate workers performing various task within the facility
• Oversee special programs for inmates including GED training, religious programs, ect.
• Perform and complete all booking procedures and release of inmates
• Performs unscheduled inspections and shake down of inmate living areas
• Periodically attends training programs as required
• Properly secures, physically restrains violent and uncontrollable detainees as appropriate
• Serves meals to inmates three times daily
• Works with the facility maintenance staff to resolve any issues that arise
• Works with the facility medical staff to resolve any inmate medical needs
• Write accurate and detailed reports of activities involving inmates and the facility

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid Driver’s license
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Successfully complete ILEA Jailer Academy within 1 year of hire date
• Successfully complete DeKalb County Jail FTO program
